TiMER. What a wonderful film. I was on the edge of a bad mood when I made a quick decision to watch this movie with a roommate. As any Romantic Comedy should be, it has its ridiculous side and its heartfelt side. It's set in the near future when (almost) everyone has opted to implant a self-timer into their wrists telling them when they are to meet their “One” soulmate. Even freshmen in high school are finding their true love with the help of this gadget. All except for Oona, played by Emma Caulfield, who still has blank zeros across hers. She is nearing her thirtieth birthday and has finally decided to have a little fun with a young supermarket cashier after convincing one too many boyfriends to invest in the implant only to find that their numbers don't match.
So now, she is flirting with disaster as his TiMER counts down to his true love and hers remains still. Other side plots I enjoyed include her step-sister's countless one night stands and the youngest brother's nerve racking day at school where he is to meet his true love. The sister's TiMER gives her another 5,200 or so days left until she meets her soulmate, which, in my opinion, excuses her behavior. On the other hand, the young brother has only to wait 5 days in order to unite with his dream girl. Without giving too much away, by the end of this film I found it somewhat predictable but just as complicated as a situation would be had we invented little plastic time bombs to tell us when to fall in love. Overall, my questions were answered by the end of the film thanks to the variety of situations. Even if the ending didn't hold as much closure as my other mainstream favorites had.
